Five hundred years ago, this farmstead was dug up, sawn down and plastered together on the bedrock where it stood. Its spring still runs through the yard - by comparison Ken & I are newcomers. He has lived in the valley all his life, latterly with me and our three children, fledglings now.

We were farming like our forebears until our livestock were killed in the 2001 Foot & Mouth epidemic. Since then, we have run a joinery business, which has come in handy doing up the barns, and I do a bit of writing, mostly magazine journalism.

We like to be booked much of the time so late deals are often available, and flexible changeover days.
